The Big Lottery Fund offers a number of funding opportunities for groups and individuals working to improve their communities.  The funding programmes below are currently open to applications.


Awards for All

Grants available - £300-£10,000

Awards for All is a rolling grants programme set up to help small local groups and communities.  The programme aims to make a difference to communities and the lives of those most in need and will focus on social and environmental projects that benefit local communities.

It is open to voluntary and community groups and charities, charitable or not for profit companies and social enterprises, schools and health organisations, parish and town councils.

Reaching Communities

Grants available - £10,000 upwards for projects that last up to 5 years

Reaching Communities funds projects that help people and communities most in need. Projects can be new or existing activities, or the core work of the organisation.

It is open to voluntary and community groups and charities, charitable or not for profit companies and social enterprises, schools and statutory bodies.


Heroes Return 2

Grants available - £165-£8,140, depending on the number of people taking part and the destination

Heroes Return 2 provides funding to help veterans attend commemorations (whether in the UK or overseas) of the end of WWII.

It is open to World War II 'active service' veterans, resident in the UK or the Republic of Ireland.  War widows and widowers of veterans are also eligible, and carers and spouses can receive funding to travel with veterans.

Parks for People

Grants available: Up to £5 million

Parks for People is a joint initiative and is run by Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) on behalf of both HLF and Big Lottery Fund. Parks for People is for projects that bring improvements to historic parks or cemeteries in England.

'Celebrate!' Programme

Grants available: £300-10,000

The Big Lottery Fund wants to help the local community come together with their 'Celebrate!' Programme, and are offering grants for groups to hold one off events or activities which celebrate their local community.

You could celebrate something from your community's history or a local hero. Or maybe it's a chance to bring people together to get to know their neighbours better.
