Caroline Dinenage MP showed her support for entrepreneurs at SETsquared's parliamentary reception last week, which celebrated the top 50 tech start-ups to have been supported by the organisation.
SETsquared is the enterprise partnership of the universities of Bath, Bristol, Exeter, Surrey and Southampton. It has supported many high growth tech companies that are now having a significant economic impact. Collectively, the partnership has raised over £1bn of investment and created over 9,000 jobs.
The top 50 entrepreneurs were selected by an expert panel of investors based on a range of criteria, including investment raised, global export, and social impact. Those honoured at last week's reception work across a diverse range of industries, including health, green technology and 5G and wireless communication.
Commenting, Caroline said 'The south has always had a vibrant culture of innovation but it's vital that promising ideas receive the right support. It's been wonderful to meet entrepreneurs from across the region who took that difficult first step and are now thriving. By providing support, logistics, training and mentoring SETsquared makes the most of the wealth of talent we have here in the UK. '
