Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has welcomed the 220 new police recruits in the Hampshire Constabulary.
Today, the Government has announced that in total over 6,620 new officers have joined the police thanks to their recruitment drive that started over a year ago. This includes over 220 officers for the Hampshire Constabulary – covering the Gosport and Fareham forces.
The figures means that the Government is well on track on delivering its manifesto commitment, that Caroline was re-elected on in 2019, to deliver 20,000 new officers by 2023.
In addition, statistics show that the police workforce is now more diverse than ever before, with 10.2% of new recruits identifying as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, and with 9.871 of all officers now being from these groups.
New and existing officers will have a boost in police pay by 2.5%, equivalent to a constable receiving an extra £1,100, and will see further protections as the new police covenant will be enshrined into law.
Caroline commented:
“It is fantastic to see so many new recruits for the Hampshire Constabulary to make our streets safer and to assist the community.
“I know that this is a very tough, but rewarding career and I would like to welcome the new bobbies to the local beat.”
Through the Safer Streets Fund, Hampshire Constabulary are also set to receive a maximum £21 million cash boost in 2021/22. This is on top of the additional £26.1 million that they last year.
