On Saturday 22nd June, local MP Caroline Dinenage will join volunteers of Gosport & Fareham Friends of the Earth to create a wildflower haven for local bees. This will be one of approximately sixty 'Bee Worlds' springing up around the country as part of the Bee Cause campaign.
Caroline will lend a hand with the planting of native wildflowers and pledge her support for the campaign to boost bee numbers.
The 20m2 space at Titchfield Haven will be transformed into a glorious wildflower meadow of long-lasting, diverse and beautiful flowers, providing vital food for threatened local pollinating insects.
Speaking ahead of the event, Caroline said:
"The plight of our bees is a big concern and I welcome the steps being taken by Gosport & Fareham Friends of the Earth to boost their numbers.
I'm delighted that Titchfield Haven has been selected as one of the Bee Worlds across the UK, providing a purpose-built habitat to reverse the decline."
As part of The Bee Cause campaign and to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Friends of the Earth has committed to creating approximately sixty bee-friendly patches (Bee Worlds) in towns and rural areas across the UK.
The Bee World event will take place on the Saturday 22nd June at Titchfield Haven, Cliff Road, Fareham, PO14 3JT.
