Local MP Caroline Dinenage spoke in Westminster today in support of a stronger relationship between employers and the Armed Forces. The remarks came during a debate about the Government's plans to revitalise the Reserve forces.
Under the Government's proposals £1.8bn will be invested in the Reserves as they change to become an integral part of the Armed Forces that enjoys an open, predicable and supportive relationship with employers. As part of the reform package small and medium sized enterprises will be given additional financial support for employees who are away on service, while Reservists will be able to obtain fully accredited civilian qualifications while on duty.
Speaking in Westminster Caroline said, "As someone who has run a small business for 20 years, I know that for all Reservists, successful service in the military depends on the support of their employers.
It is therefore fantastic news that this Government will be placing a clear emphasis on the development of our Reservists, and on building and maintaining a transparent and productive relationship between employers and the Armed Forces. The extra finance for small and medium size businesses is a real step forward, and I welcome any opportunity that sees us helping people to learn new skills and acquire valuable transferable qualifications.
We owe a great debt both to the individuals who protect our national security and to the businesses that employ our Reserve Troops, and I'm delighted that Government is making sure that we are repaying both the employers, and the reservists themselves, by providing them with the training and skills to flourish both in the field and in the workplace."
