Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, is supporting World Book Day’s 25th anniversary today, Thursday 3rd March 2022.
Each year, World Book Day creates bespoke £1 books for children and young adults across the UK and Ireland, to promote the power of imagination and the importance of reading. Through World Book Day, every child in Gosport, Lee on the Solent, Stubbington and Hill Head will be given a £1 book token, which they can take to a bookshop or supermarket.
World Book Day has been changing children’s lives by encouraging a love of books and reading for 25 years. Reading for pleasure makes an enormous impact on a child’s future – whether that’s their educational success, well-being or mental health. World Book Day wants to see more children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with the life-long habit of reading for pleasure that will improve their life chances.
Sadly, the COVID-19 has widened the economic and educational gap. World Book Day helps to tackle book poverty and encourages all children to read for pleasure. This year, it is more important than ever.
Commenting Caroline said:
“Reading can entertain, inform & inspire us - whisk us away to other times & places, make us laugh, make us cry, make us think!
Bedtime stories are a magical time for parents & children to read together, make memories and nurture a lifelong love of reading - my kids & I will always treasure Harry Potter, How To Train Your Dragon & Michael Morpurgo’s tales which I read to them when they were younger”
Fantastic resources for nursery, primary and secondary school age children as well as fundraising ideas and other useful information can be found at https://www.worldbookday.com/.
