Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage today chaired a high-profile meeting on the future of UK manufacturing.
Leading journalists, politicians and manufacturers gathered for the meeting, hosted the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group, to discuss how to improve the image and fortunes of the manufacturing sector.
Eminent businesswoman and Dragons Den star Deborah Meaden and successful pottery manufacturer Emma Bridgewater both shared their experiences of the manufacturing industries, before attendees explored the role that media and Government can play in promoting UK manufacturing and improving its image, in a discussion led by Business Minister Mark Prisk.
Speaking after the successful event, Caroline said:
"Manufacturing is the key to growing our way out of recession in a sustainable and balanced way. Yet it's a sector plagued by a major 'image problem' that undermines investment and deters talented young people from entering the industry. I was delighted to chair this hugely constructive meeting and hear from its high-profile attendees about how we can best tackle these misconceptions and expand the potential of our dynamic manufacturing industries".
Caroline's involvement in the meeting reflects her ongoing commitment to promoting UK manufacturing. As an Vice-Chair of the Associate Parliamentary Manufacturing Group, she works to champion the sector through their flagship 'Made in Britain' scheme, which showcases the best of British manufacturing.
