Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has welcomed the news that Gosport attractions will see a VAT cut of 15% as announced by the Chancellor, Rishi Sunak, last Wednesday.
A plethora of jobs packages were announced in a £30 billion ‘mini-budget’ last Wednesday, focusing on rejuvenating the economy and protecting peoples jobs and incomes.
This included a VAT cut for restaurants, hotels, attractions and cinemas from 20% to 5% over the next 6 months, with an estimated cost of £4.1 billion to the Treasury. In comparison, in the wake of the 2008 financial crises, the Labour government cut tax from 17.5% to 15%.
Importantly, the measures will benefit attractions in the Gosport Constituency, from the one of the kind Diving Museum, Explosion! Museum of Naval Firepower, Submarine Museum and Little Woodham.
Many local attractions are looking to reopen their doors to visitors this July once COVID-19 Secure.
Caroline commented:
“Our local attractions are vital summer entertainment not only for residents, but tourists visiting the coast.
“They are proud storytellers of our history, from our strategic naval importance to what living life was like centuries ago.
“This VAT cut will hopefully not only encourage more visitors, but also help the attractions get back on their feet as they reopen.”
