Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, joined MAKE UK this week to hear about the organisation’s work and priorities for manufacturers across the UK.
MAKE UK represents employees across the manufacturing sector, including engineering, aviation, defence, oil and gas, food and chemicals. MAKE UK comprises of 20,000 businesses who employ together almost one million workers.
Caroline also took the opportunity to discuss manufacturing in the Gosport constituency, and to chat to Ben Gunter (pictured), an apprentice at the heavy building materials supplier, Forterra.
Caroline said:
‘Having run a manufacturing business for 20 years before becoming an MP, it’s been great to hear from MAKE UK about their priorities for the manufacturing sector and to chat to some apprentices about their work in a variety of industries.
In the Gosport constituency, there are 195 manufacturing businesses, representing 3000 jobs and this makes up 12.5% of all employment (the national average is only 8.17%) – so this is such an important issue for many in the local area!’
