Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has hailed a new chapter in the economic regeneration of the area, as planning proposals for the Enterprise Zone at the Daedalus site got the green light.
Fareham and Gosport Borough Councils yesterday approved the two outline planning applications to allow the major redevelopment of the former military site. The proposals are set to bring new businesses, homes and thousands of jobs to the Solent Enterprise Zone.
It is estimated that the redevelopment will create over 4,000 new jobs and deliver a huge economic boost for the local area, with over 1m sq ft of new employment space. The success of the proposals is also a huge step forward for plans to develop the Daedalus Enterprise Zone into a hub for advanced manufacturing and technology businesses from the marine, aerospace and defence sectors.
Caroline Dinenage, who has long promoted the redevelopment of the Daedalus site, hailed the decision as "opening a new chapter in the economic regeneration of the whole local area". She added:
"Since my election, I've made the regeneration of the Daedalus site an absolute priority and I am delighted that the proposals have now been approved. This marks the next big step forward in turning our plans for a hub of marine and aviation excellence into a reality. In these difficult economic times, this is a hugely important and welcome boost that will bring a great many new jobs to our local area."
The Gosport MP, who was instrumental in securing the site's status as an Enterprise Zone, will now continue to work with Solent Local Economic Partnership (LEP) to ensure the success outcome of the proposals.
