Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, visited Halfords in Gosport where residents have the opportunity to trial an e-bike for free for up to six hours.
Halfords is offering a total of three million hours of free e-bike trials over the course of the next year, with residents in Gosport among the first given the chance to take part.
With residents treated to a choice of up to 12 e-bikes, customers will be given the opportunity to try out the bike for up to six hours.
Commenting, Caroline said:
“It’s great that Halfords are offering the chance to try out an e-bike before purchasing, and I’m sure many people will make the most of the opportunity.
I was really impressed with the staff at the Gosport store – they answered all my questions and had a real eagerness to showcase this exciting new option for personal transport.
Switching from driving to riding an e-bike for shorter journeys is healthier for you and healthier for the environment - so encouraging people to cycle is really important for building back better after the pandemic.”
As well as the health and social benefits, swapping the car for an e-bike on short commutes benefits the environment, which is so important as we look to build back greener from the pandemic.”
With up to six hours to trial the bike, customers are given ample time to get a feel for their chosen e-bike; including the range, comfortability and speed - so they can ride away confident that their questions have been answered.
Gregg Feely, Halfords’ Gosport store manager, said:
"It was great to see our local MP take part in Halfords’ e-bike trials. We hope this will encourage many more customers to give this a go, as we support the UK in adopting modern, electric and environmentally friendly transport alternatives.”
Over the past 18 months, electric bikes have increased in popularity. With one in three workers being reluctant to commute to work by public transport, e-bikes offer a feasible alternative and make cycling far more accessible for all. Riders of all ages can tackle more challenging journeys, get to places faster and with less exertion, putting the fun back into boring old journeys.
Plus, e-bikes are great for promoting positive mental health by helping to reduce stress and anxiety and boosting one’s mood. And with benefits for the environment too, it's no wonder sales have grown by 76% year on year!
Taking part in the new trial couldn’t be easier- customers simply enter their postcode into the Halford e-bike trial finder, and they are shown availability at their local store. From there, they can choose a day and time that suits them and book their slot - a £101 deposit will be taken when the bike is collected, however is refunded in full when returned.
