Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, is encouraging constituents to take part in Independents’ Day on 4 July!
Independents’ Day gives everyone the opportunity to celebrate local independent retailers for their contribution to local economies and society. This celebration is supported by both the Independent Retailers' Confederation and the British Independent Retailers' Association.
Independents account for around 65% of the retail outlets in the UK and research has shown that for every £1 spent with a small or medium-sized business, 63p is re-spent in the local area.
Supporting independent local businesses not only helps the local economy but job creation, job retention as well as helping to retain diversity, choice and character in local communities.
Independent retailers offer choice, diversity with their products and services, as well as offering a more personal service to customers. They create jobs and contribute to local and national economies. With retail spending under pressure, they need our support more than ever.
Local MP Caroline Dinenage commented:
“Independent businesses are the lifeblood of our economy and have the power to drive us ahead in the global race. That’s why I am proud to back ‘Independents’ Day’ and encourage people to shop at independent retailers, on Independents’ Day and beyond!
Having run an independent business for over 20 years, promoting the value of small businesses has always been a key priority for Caroline. She was an active member of the BIS Select Committee and was appointed Small Business Ambassador for the south by the Prime Minister in 2013.
