Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage is encouraging local women to come together on Sunday to celebrate International Women's Day.
International Women's Day is a worldwide event which promotes the achievements of women and recognises where further progress towards equality is needed. It is being marked in Gosport with a march from the Millennium Bridge near the Explosion Museum at 2pm this Sunday (8th March). Women are invited to bring their mums, sisters, daughters and friends (men are also welcome!) to join this celebration of women.
Speaking ahead of the event, Caroline said:
"International Women's Day gives us a fantastic opportunity to stand back and recognise just how much progress women have made. Thanks to this Government's policies there are now more women in work and more women starting up their own businesses than ever before.
I am really looking forward to coming together with local women of all ages and from all backgrounds to celebrate the inspirational women who have helped us to get to where we are today. I hope to see you there!"
International Women's Day takes place on 8th March each year and has been celebrated since the beginning of the 1900s.
