Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, is joining celebrities such as Sandi Toksvig and Stephen Fry to promote the ‘Turn On The Subtitles’ campaign to improve children’s literacy skills across the Gosport Constituency.
COVID-19 has had an impact of literacy levels, but Caroline is backing a simple measure and has teamed up with the campaign group Turn On The Subtitles, to change this.
73% of 5-7 year olds and 78% of 8-11 year olds watch video-on-demand. By turning on the subtitles, you can double the chance of a child becoming good at reading.
Caroline, who is writing to all the schools in the Gosport Constituency about this, commented:
“Along with familiar faces such as Sandi Toksvig and Stephen Fry, I’m supporting the ‘Turn On The Subtitles’ campaign to help children across the Gosport Constituency improve their reading skills.
“It’s simple, free and an effective idea to build literacy prowess across our local area.”
The campaign has garnered much attention nationwide with celebrity backers including Stephen Fry, Sir Lenny Henry, Sandi Toksvig, Phillip Schofield and Rachel Riley amongst those joining the call for more parents to embrace this idea.
