Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has pledged her support to the British Heart Foundation's campaign to combat the causes of childhood obesity.
Caroline joined fellow MPs at an event in Parliament arranged by the British Heart Foundation to discuss what can be done to reduce the rates of childhood obesity in the UK. The charity is aiming to increase physical activity in childhood, promote clear traffic light food labelling to help parents make informed decisions, and stop junk food marketing to children.
Speaking after the event, Caroline said:
"Obesity in young people has a huge impact upon their health in later life. I was surprised to learn that just an hour of physical activity each day can dramatically reduce the risk of obesity.
I am delighted to support the British Heart Foundation's excellent campaign and I hope that parents in Gosport will take on board the charity's recommendations."
The British Heart Foundation is committed to tackling risk factors such as obesity which increase the chances of a person contracting heart disease.
