"Dame Millicent was an inspiration to women during her lifetime and she will continue to inspire others to continue the fight for equality in the years ahead." Caroline Dinenage
Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, joined the Prime Minister and other Parliamentarians in witnessing the unveiling of a statue of Dame Millicent Fawcett.
The statue of the suffragist is the first statue of a woman to be unveiled in Parliament Square. She joins 11 other male figures such as Sir Winston Churchill and Mahatma Gandhi.
Commenting Caroline said: "In this centenary year of female suffrage it is right that Millicent Fawcett was chosen to be the very first statue commemorating a woman.
Without her tireless work, along with many other women a hundred years ago I wouldn't be able to vote, let alone stand for Parliament.
Her stirring words, "Courage calls to courage everywhere" are just as relevant today as they were a century ago."
