Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has been successful in her bid for her Constituency to be part of the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy, a network of forest conservation initiatives to mark Her Majesty's lifetime of service to the Commonwealth.
This means the Gosport area will receive five trees - two silver birch, two rowan, and a hazel - thanks to a partnership between the Woodland Trust, Sainsbury's and ITV. In April a landmark documentary, The Queen's Green Planet, followed Her Majesty the Queen and this ambitious legacy project.
Caroline would like to see the five Queen's Commonwealth Canopy trees growing in locations across the local community so she is inviting local organisations, businesses, gardens, schools and community groups to bid for one.
Caroline said:
"Trees are a vital part of our landscape, both essential and cherished in our environment, they are crucial in reducing carbon and providing a home for wildlife.
I want to share the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy trees across the Gosport Constituency so that everyone can watch them flourish as part of this wonderful legacy initiative."
To apply for one of the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy trees, please contact Natasha on [email protected] with the name of the organisation and where the tree will go by 28 October.
