Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage will highlight the importance of innovation as a key driver of economic growth, calling on organisations across the public and private sectors to support change, as she holds a debate in Parliament tomorrow.
With the UK often lagging behind the likes of Germany and the US in the take up of cutting-edge technology, government bodies and multinational companies alike must embrace innovative solutions or risk losing ground in the global race.
Speaking ahead of the debate, Caroline said:
"A strong manufacturing sector can help grow our economy in a sustainable and balanced way. Yet without support for innovation across the board Britain risks conceding market share and playing catch-up with our global partners.
While parts of Whitehall recognise the advantages of getting ahead of the curve and striving for innovation, there remains a prevailing desire not to rock the boat and I'd therefore urge the Government to take steps to change this mindset."
Caroline's call for greater support reflects her ongoing commitment to promoting UK manufacturing and follows her efforts to secure a £12m investment package for an advanced skills training centre at the Solent Enterprise Zone. The centre will provide specialist training for the advanced manufacturing sector, up-skilling employees of businesses on the site and securing the future of advanced manufacturing skills across the Solent.
The debate will take place in Westminster Hall from 1100 to 1130 on Wednesday 5th June.
