Local MP Caroline Dinenage met with the Lloyds Banking Group this week to hear about their University scholarship programme.
The Lloyds Scholars scheme is aimed at gifted young people from lower income households of less than £25,000 per annum, and is designed to help fund them through university courses.
Backing the scheme, Caroline said:
"This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get some invaluable support and experience. For some, access to University can seem impossible because of the costs involved, but Lloyds Scholars can help students overcome these challenges by providing a perfect platform to develop a great career."
The programme is run in partnership with top universities across the UK including the University of Bristol, Edinburgh, Oxford, Sheffield, Warwick and University College London.
Applications are open until Friday the 27th of July for eligible students who have been offered a place at these Universities to start in September/October 2012.
