Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage will welcome brand new Defence Minister, Anna Soubry MP, to Gosport tomorrow to discuss local military issues.
The visit will include a tour of the military and ex-military sites around the constituency. Caroline will then hold a brief meeting with the Minister to consider how the potential of these sites can be maximised.
She will discuss some of the key issues facing the area, such as the urgent need to replace the Victorian Oil Fuel Depot in time for the new Queen Elizabeth class aircraft carriers.
Caroline will also continue her campaign to end a discrepancy in payment rules which prevents service personnel from claiming expenses for journeys made to and from work on the Gosport Ferry, but incentivises them to drive the distance between Gosport and Portsmouth.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Caroline said:
"I'm really grateful that the Minister has found time in her busy schedule to visit Gosport. I'm looking forward to taking her on a tour of the peninsula and hope that we can secure even more MoD support for our area.
Gosport's close links with defence are essential to its heritage and a number of exciting plans are currently being drawn up for some of our former military sites. I am also pleased to have the opportunity to discuss policies affecting serving personnel."
Caroline is determined to ensure that Gosport capitalises on the huge number of opportunities offered by its military estates. She is also committed to getting a better deal for service personnel & veterans and has raised various issues with her ministerial colleagues in the Ministry of Defence since her election in 2010.
