Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has welcomed figures released today by the Office of National Statistics showing that unemployment in Gosport is now at its lowest rate since July 2010.
Since her election, Caroline has remained committed to increasing the number of jobs in our local area and hearing that there are 69 more people employed than last month is a step in the right direction.
Following the publication of the data, Caroline said:
"The statistics released today prove that the Government's policies are really succeeding in getting people back into work. There is still more to be done, both in Gosport and across the UK, but these are positive signs that the British economy is turning a corner.
When I was first elected, there was only half a job for every person of working age in Gosport. Now, thanks to the Daedalus Enterprise Zone and the Bridging the Gap Fund, we are on the path to economic recovery. I believe passionately in our area and the skills that our local people possess and will never be shy in selling Gosport as a fantastic place to do business."
The current rate of unemployment in Gosport is now 2.8% compared to the national average of 7.7%
