Local, MP, Caroline Dinenage, has welcomed the introduction of the Government’s landmark Environment Bill to Parliament today (Thursday 30 January).
The Environment Bill will be introduced ahead of the UK’s departure from the European Union tomorrow evening (Friday 31 January), and will have its first reading in the House of Commons today. The Bill will progress through further stages in the coming weeks.
Caroline said:
“I am absolutely delighted that the Government have introduced this landmark Bill. Protecting our precious environment has never been so important, and this Bill allows us to tackle climate change head-on. We are facing a climate emergency and decisive action is needed now!
This Bill will ensure the environment is at the heart of all government policy making, by enshrining a commitment to improving air quality, protecting nature, increasing recycling and cutting down plastic waste.
Tomorrow, as the UK finally leaves the EU, this Bill sets out ways that the UK can protect and restore our natural environment and builds on the Government’s commitment to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.”
