Local MP Caroline Dinenage has welcomed figures from the Office of National Statistics showing that unemployment in her Gosport constituency is down again.
The unemployment rate decreased from 2.4% to 2.3% between November and December 2013 and the number of people in employment has increased by 489 since December 2012. The youth unemployment rate also dropped last month and currently stands at 4.4%, down 2.7% from December 2012.
Commenting on the data, Caroline said:
"Hearing that unemployment in Gosport has fallen again is very good news. I am proud that local people are overcoming the barriers to employment, thanks to targeted support from local organisations and businesses.
The outlook for the UK is also promising, with more people in unemployment than ever before. There is still more to be done, but I am pleased that this Government's policies are helping people to get back on to the job ladder."
Gosport's current unemployment rate is 2.3%, compared to the national average of 7.1%.
