This week the Home Secretary has allocated police forces across the UK money from the £100 million Serious Violence Fund that aims to tackle serious violence.
Hampshire has been granted £1,260,000 to combat and reduce serious violence across the area, including in Gosport. A total of 18 forces dealing with high levels of violent crime have been distributed money.
Out of the Serious Violence Fund, nationally around one third of the funding - £35 million – will help create violent reduction units (VRUs) and preventative measures. Another £1,600,000 million will be focused on collecting data that will help target action and planned reduction measures.
Ministerial meetings from this week will focus on the Serious Violence Taskforce which is supported by a new serious violence reduction team.
