Caroline Dinenage MP will next week lead a meeting between local residents' associations and National Grid among concerns about proposals for an IFA2 interconnector at Daedalus.
This meeting follows up from an initial one that Caroline attended with National Grid before Christmas, where she first heard about the plans and sought assurances on a number of serious concerns, which included:
- The safety of the site - what the impact of electro-magnetic or other emissions would be on local residents and the natural environment?
- What the noise emissions would be from the site how they would be minimised?
- The visual impact of an interconnector - how much could the building be underground and the site landscaped to reduce the visual impact?
- The potential impact on aircraft & airfield users.
The meeting that will take place next week will allow both Caroline and representatives from local Residents Associations to seek answers from National Grid bosses on these and other matters and discuss whether the interconnector would be better at a different location.
Caroline said "We know that projects of this nature are necessary to keep the lights on, however I absolutely share resident's doubts that this is a suitable location. I am concerned about any potential impact of this development on both our local communities and our landscape.
Although no planning application has been submitted to Fareham Borough Council for this project yet, local residents are rightly worried about proposals. That's why I have arranged this meeting at the earliest possible opportunity to allow us to question National Grid fully."
Caroline will be joined at the meeting by representatives from Lee on the Solent, Peel Common and Hill Head residents associations as well as local Councillors.
