Dame Caroline Dinenage, Member of Parliament for Gosport, has announced that “the race is hotting up” in her bid to name the Gosport Constituency’s Best Independent Shop.
After the field was whittled down from 82 local independent businesses to 10, people from Gosport, Lee on the Solent, Stubbington, and Hill Head now have until 6pm Friday 13 December to vote for their favourite.
The 10 businesses who received the most nominations in the first round of the competition, in no particular order, were:

- Beautangles Hair Design
- Wildgreen Tattoo & Piercing
- Queens Parade News
- Alverstoke Village Hardware
- Ceri Williams Tattoos
- The Gel Studio - Nail Artistry & Training Academy
- Finishing Touches Gift Shop Lee-On-The-Solent
In its fourth year, Caroline’s Best Independent Shop competition has previously seen nearly 10,000 votes. This year’s winner will join previous victors A Slice of Vinyl, Alverstoke Village Hardware and Indelible Ink as the Gosport constituency’s best independent shop.
After voting opened, Caroline said:
“The high engagement I get with my Best Independent Shop Competition just demonstrates how much love there is in the Gosport constituency for small independent businesses. They are the lifeblood of our communities and places that everyone can see have a value. People are attached to them.
“Now the race to crown my 2024 winner is hotting up and I’m incredibly excited to see which of these amazing businesses comes out on top. They all deserve to win, but in the end there can only be one winner.”
