Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage today thanked personnel from HMS Sultan for taking part in London Poppy Day, selling poppies at London Bridge Station from dawn until dusk.
London Poppy Day is a campaign led by the Royal British Legion to raise money to support service men and women, veterans and their families. Each year, uniformed personnel and volunteers hit mainline and underground stations across the capital to sell poppies ahead of Remembrance Day on November 11th.
Caroline commented:
"I was extremely proud to see so many personnel from HMS Sultan giving up their time to raise vital funds for the Royal British Legion which does such incredible work in supporting our Armed Forces community. They had an exceptionally long day having got up at 4:30am to be selling poppies by 6:00am – when I saw them they were bracing themselves for the evening rush of commuters!
It is important that each year we remember the huge sacrifices that these brave people make to keep us safe and I was delighted to thank our local service men and women for supporting this hugely worthwhile campaign."
Since first becoming elected in 2010, Caroline has always stood up for the interests of the Armed Forces both locally and nationally. She led the campaign to secure the Arctic Star medal for veterans of the Arctic Convoy, twice fought to protect the Royal Naval School of Engineering at HMS Sultan from relocating to south Wales and helped to reinstate the Home to Duty Travel Allowance for service personnel commuting on the Gosport Ferry.
