If re-elected on 8th June I will continue to support our armed forces.
Following many constituent complaints regarding Service Family Accommodation and Carillion Amey, I contacted Ministers and made a submission to the Public Accounts Committee expressing my concerns.
I have been fighting for improvements to the standards of Service Family Accommodation and due to my constant letter writing, Gosport was chosen as one of three pilot sites for an SFA complaints hotline. I am pleased that the number of complaints I receive about SFA has dropped and I hope this trend will continue.
With many service personnel living in Gosport and travelling to work, in light of our local road congestion, it is vital that commuters in our area have other, more sustainable, options available to them. However for years, service personnel travelling across the Harbour to work in Portsmouth were only able to claim back their travel costs if they went by car.
For three years I campaigned for the Home-to-Duty travel allowance to be reinstated for our armed forces commuting to work on the Gosport Ferry. I even brought Government Ministers to our area to get them on side. I was delighted when the MoD finally agreed. As one of the most expensive stretches of water in the UK it would be great to see ferry fares lower for all commuters, but in our quest to take cars off the roads at peak times every little helps!
If re-elected on 8th June I will continue to fight for better accommodation and fairer allowances for our armed forces and their families.
