Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage is encouraging Second World War veterans to sign up to the Big Lottery Fund's Heroes Return programme.
To mark the 70th anniversary of the Normandy Landings, Heroes Return 2 is offering WW2 veterans grants from between £165 to £8,140 towards travel and accommodation expenses to enable them, their spouse and carers to make trips back to places where they served, both in the UK and abroad.
Speaking in support of the scheme, Caroline said:
"This is a tremendous opportunity for those who served in the Second World War to go back to the places where they served and remember the sacrifices made by their fallen comrades.
I would urge the family members of eligible veterans to make an application and take advantage of the chance to commemorate this important anniversary in a very special way."
To date, through the Heroes Return programme, the Big Lottery Fund has awarded over £28 million to more than 57,000 veterans, their widows, spouses and carers, for journeys in the UK, France, Germany, the Middle East, Far East and beyond.
