Local MP Caroline Dinenage joined EDF Energy and the British Science Association in the House of Commons this week to launch a new initiative: The Great EDF Energy Experiment. The project aims to get children, their parents and teachers to participate in a series of live mass participation experiments that address real scientific questions, and is designed to inspire children in the Gosport area into science.
Commenting, Caroline said:
"Engaging young children with STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) is critically important. Getting involved in these subjects is not only great fun but gives kids real skills and exciting career options.
Unfortunately, sometimes it can be a challenge getting kids involved - so I was delighted to learn about The Great EDF Energy Experiment. I urge every school in the Gosport area to sign up to the programme"
The Great EDF Energy Experiment is a new five-year initiative launched in partnership with the British Science Association, aimed at inspiring a new generation of science enthusiasts. By taking part in mass participation experiments that address real scientific questions, pupils, parents and teachers will be encouraged to engage with science in a new way.
The first experiment in this five year initiative – The Big Bumblebee Discovery – will launch in Spring 2014, and will seek to 'recruit' thousands of children and parents to act as scientific researchers this summer.
