Local MP Caroline Dinenage was joined at the Daedalus site today by Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable, to celebrate the topping out of a new Fareham College training facility for over 900 students on Automotive, Engineering and Manufacturing courses.
Commenting, Caroline said,
"It is so important that our young people get the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly competitive jobs market. This new Centre of Excellence will offer students from our local area the chance to learn practical skills and get the qualifications that will set them up for great careers."
As a strong advocate of the learning and skills agenda, Caroline has a long-standing commitment to promoting practical learning and apprenticeship opportunities, and regularly champions this issue both nationally and in Gosport.
"I've frequently pushed the Government for more skills training and better vocational qualifications – and it's fantastic that the Secretary of State has come to see a site in our area that will help young people get the skills they need to get on in life."
The new Centre of Excellence in Engineering, Manufacturing & Advanced Skills Training (CEMAST) is set to open on the Daedalus Airfield in September 2014, and will also act as the main learning centre for students on apprenticeships with firms like BAE Systems, GE Aviation, and Virgin Atlantic.
