Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has continued her fight against fuel poverty, taking her concerns straight to the Energy Secretary with a question in the House of Commons today.
With the freezing temperatures stretching household finances across the Gosport peninsula, Caroline is determined to ensure the Government is doing all it can to help those in need.
She asked the Energy Secretary:
"What steps his Department is taking to tackle fuel poverty?"
The Energy Minister, Greg Barker MP, responded on behalf of the Government and said:
"The Green Deal and Energy Company Obligation will provide considerable support to make homes more energy efficient, reaching some 230,000 low-income and vulnerable households each year. Our Warm Home Discount scheme supports 2 million households in total and this winter it's already helped a million of the poorest pensioners and we also make cold weather payments and winter fuel payments."
Caroline added outside the Chamber: "Fuel bills are a big worry for many people at the moment. I am pleased that the Government are getting to grips with this important issue and hope the Green Deal will make a big difference to my constituents by saving them money on their bills."
