Local MP Caroline Dinenage paid a visit to Stubbington Medical Practice this week to meet staff members and take a tour of the Surgery's facilities.
In recent years, staff at the Practice have faced the challenges of a building which is no longer large enough to accommodate the needs of a busy Medical Centre.
During her visit, Caroline discussed ways in which she could assist surgery Partners to find solutions to address the lack of space. She also discussed the lengthy waiting times which some people experience when booking appointments with GPs, and the Government's announcement of plans to give people access to GPs seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm.
Speaking in support of the Surgery, Caroline said:
"The staff at Stubbington Medical Practice are a great team and their hard work is hugely valued by the local community. However, the accessibility of care is sometimes compromised by the absence of space and essential facilities such as lifts. For many people, life would be very difficult without the help and support of the fantastic doctors and nurses that work in our area, which is why I am committed to supporting the Surgery in overcoming the problems it faces.
With regard to waiting times, it is vital that the hard-working people of Stubbington, and the rest of Britain, are able to get appointments with their GPs quickly and at times convenient for them. That is why I am delighted that the Government has decided to extend the opening hours of GP Surgeries across the country."
The new scheme will be trialled in nine pilot areas and will also allow patients to communicate with their doctor by phone, email or Skype.
