Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage rolled up her sleeves and joined volunteers of Gosport & Fareham Friends of the Earth to generate a wildflower haven for local bees this weekend.
The new habitat at Titchfield Haven is one of many 'Bee Worlds' which are being created across the country to promote the Bee Cause campaign. The 20m² space is being transformed into a glorious wildflower meadow of long-lasting, diverse and beautiful flowers, providing vital food for threatened local pollinating insects.
Speaking after the event, Caroline said:
"Britain's declining bee population is extremely concerning; it will have a considerable impact on our farming sector and the quality of our beautiful countryside.
Local action is vital and I am delighted to be supporting Gosport & Fareham Friends of the Earth who are doing their best to help our bees."
As part of The Bee Cause campaign and to mark the Queen's Diamond Jubilee, Friends of the Earth has committed to creating approximately sixty bee-friendly patches (Bee Worlds) in towns and rural areas across the UK.
