Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage today welcomed the announcement that Sir John Holmes' medal review will provide a further report by the end of the year.
The update came during Monday's Defence Questions, with several of the new ministerial team making their first outing in the Chamber.
Dr Andrew Murrison, the new Minister for International Security Strategy, said "Sir John will report further towards the end of the year on the rules that apply to medalling and will deal specifically with the Arctic convoy and various other circumstances."
This announcement follows Caroline's long-running campaign for a medal for the veterans of the Arctic Convoys of WW2, who endured unimaginable hardships in order to keep supply lines open to Russia. She has spoken with new Defence Ministers following the reshuffle in a bid to ensure they are informed about the long history of the fight for a medal and to keep up the pressure for action to be taken quickly.
Caroline said "Whilst this news is promising, it's another reminder that time is not on our side, I will continue to put pressure on the Government to ensure the recommendations of the review are swiftly implemented. I would like to see them make a decision to grant a medal to our heroic Arctic Convoy veterans before Christmas."
