Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage was yesterday elected to serve on one of Parliament's key committees, the Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) Select Committee.
Caroline was elected from a field of six candidates to the powerful cross-party committee which plays an important role in scrutinising the work of the BIS Department and its associated public bodies, including Ofcom and the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
Speaking after her election win, Caroline said:
"I am honoured to have been elected to the BIS Select Committee and look forward to making a significant contribution to its work. Select Committees have a vital role to play in examining legislation and proposing reforms, and I'll work hard to ensure that we put growth, innovation and high-end skills training at the heart of Government policy."
Caroline has built up a strong track record of supporting enterprise and innovation locally, playing a key role in the creation of the Daedalus Enterprise Zone and the 'Bridging the Gap' Regional Growth Fund for new and growing businesses in Gosport, Portsmouth & Havant. She will brings to the committee 20 years experience as a small business-owner as well as a reputation for championing SMEs, UK industry, and skills training in Parliament.
The Select Committee is known for its broad remit, and has recently held investigations in to the reform of executive pay, student visas and the Government's reform of Higher Education.
