Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage has welcomed success in her campaign for fair fuel prices.
The local MP has applauded the Government's decision to scrap the August 2012 fuel duty increase. As a signatory of the FairFuel Pledge, Caroline had committed to preventing the planned 3p-a-litre rise from coming into force.
Speaking after the announcement by Chancellor George Osborne, Caroline said:
"I am delighted that the Government has listened to my concerns, and the concerns of my constituents, in taking the decision to scrap the rise. It's great news for hard-working families and businesses across Gosport and the UK, and I commend FairFuel UK for their excellent campaign."
Today's decision to stop the rise comes in addition to the £4.5 billion-worth of relief already invested by the Government in keeping down the burden on hard-pressed motorists between 2011 and 2013.
