Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage will maintain the pressure to secure a medal for the veterans of the Arctic Convoys in Parliament next week.
During Monday's Defence Questions, the local MP will call on the Secretary of State for an update on the new review into an Arctic Convoy medal. She will ask:
"What recent progress has been made by the independent review into granting a medal to the Arctic Convoy veterans; and if he will make a statement."
The question follows the Prime Minister's support for the formation of an independent review in December 2011, after the 16 month inquiry by the Ministry of Defence failed to reach a successful conclusion.
Speaking before the question, Caroline said:
"We cannot let the pressure drop in this vital campaign to secure a medal for the heroic men of the Arctic Convoys. It remains the only major sea campaign of WWII not to have been granted a specific medal despite the unimaginably dangerous and freezing conditions the veterans endured."
"I want to know whether the Government has acted with the necessary urgency in forming this independent review, so that it can grant a medal to these brave veterans before it is too late."
The question reflects Caroline's long-term campaign to secure a medal for the veterans, which has involved numerous letters to the MoD, questions to the Prime Minister and a debate in Parliament on the issue.
