Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, celebrates Hampshire as the county’s historical flag flew in Parliament Square Gardens today.
The Government flew the 50 registered historical flags of the UK in Parliament Square Gardens, alongside the Union Flag.
The day celebrated the history and traditions of these counties by demonstrating the significance of our Union.
Commenting, Caroline said:
“Seeing our historic county flag flying made me very proud to be from Hampshire- the oldest Shire in England!
Given Hampshire’s great history as the seat of the capital of England and many other historical events, this was a great opportunity to celebrate our heritage.”
Minister for the Northern Powerhouse and Local Growth, Jake Berry, said:
“To date 50 historic counties have registered flags- 37 in England, 6 in Scotland and 7 in Wales.
An exciting catalyst for celebrations all over the country with the potential events marking historic counties, boosting tourism and bringing people together.”
