Gosport MP, Caroline Dinenage, has written to Gosport Borough Football Club about new, emergency funds worth up to £27,000 that they are eligible for through the National League football fund.
A total of £10 million is available for Steps 3 to 6, with different amounts depending on the club’s step. Across England, 850 football clubs are eligible and can apply for the Football Winter Survival Package through the Football Foundation. The deadline for applications is February 14th 2021.
The aim of the investment is to ensure the survival of local football clubs through the winter months and minimise the long-term damage to participation. Gosport Borough FC itself had its last match back on October 31st 2020 against Dorchester in the FA Trophy. The team have not played a league game since the 27th October but manager and former English footballer, Shaun Gale, has started preparations and scouting for next season.

“I know that players and fans will be deeply disappointed that Boro' have been unable to play a match in three months given COVID-19 restrictions.
“The club is a central part of our community and we all want to ensure their survival so the team can get match fit and ready for when games can commence. I have contacted the club about funding available for them over these winter months and shall continue to support them in any way I can as we face the consequences of the pandemic.”
In addition, all local clubs and organisations can apply for other funding through the Return to Play stream. In partnership with the Government, Sports England and the National Lottery, various grants for clubs and organisations who keep communities fit and children active are available.
