The Prime Minister has today announced that England must move into Plan B to slow the spread of Covid-19.
Caroline Dinenage, Gosport MP, commented:
“A number of constituents have contacted me with concerns regarding the increase in Covid cases locally and the impact that this could have on our NHS over the winter months.
The government have acted proportionately and responsibly; however, it is now apparent that further steps must be taken to slow the spread of covid-19 and reduce hospitalisations and deaths.”
568 Omicron cases have been confirmed, affecting every region of the UK, and the evidence shows that the doubling time is between two and three days. We are now seeing a growth mirroring that in South Africa due to the Omicron variant, South Africa are now seeing hospitalisations and deaths doubling.
The move to Plan B means that
- From Friday 10th December face masks will be made mandatory in most public indoor venues including theatres and cinemas.
- From Monday 13th December people must work from home if they can.
- In a week’s time the NHS Covid Pass or a negative lateral flow test will be mandatory in nightclubs and large public venues.
- Furthermore, those who are a contact of an Omicron Covid-19 case will no longer have to isolate, however must take daily tests.
