Local MP, Dame Caroline Dinenage, is encouraging the people of Gosport, Lee on the Solent, Stubbington and Hill Head to nominate the local women who inspire them most as part of International Women’s Day.
Caroline will be using her Facebook page to publicly celebrate and thank the local women who are nominated, in the week of International Women’s Day.
International Women’s Day will take place on Tuesday 8th March and is a worldwide event which aims to celebrate the achievements of women, raise awareness about women’s equality, lobby for accelerated gender parity and fundraise for female-focused charities.
This year’s theme is #BreakTheBias which focuses on the bias that society often has towards women, making it difficult for them to move ahead. Action is still needed to level the playing field for women in work and society in general.
Throughout the course of the pandemic, women have been disproportionately impacted, taking on the majority of unpaid care and home-schooling responsibilities. It is time to celebrate the exceptional work of these women in our everyday lives.
Commenting, Caroline said:
“Whether it be our mums, sisters, friends, teachers, or colleagues, we all know women whose actions have inspired, protected and supported us. I want to celebrate these women, ensuring that their actions are recognised and appreciated.”
If you wish to nominate someone then please send an email to [email protected] with the full name of your nominee and a description of why you think that they are inspiring.
