Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, visited Huhtamaki today in support of National Apprenticeship Week 2019.
Caroline presented two of their staff who have recently completed their engineering apprenticeship with their certificates and saw the projects they have worked on during their time as apprentices
National Apprenticeship Week aims to highlight the benefits of apprenticeships to employers, individuals, local communities and the wider economy in a week-long celebration of apprenticeships.
Caroline said:
"It was fantastic to meet Dale and James who have completed their apprenticeships with Huhtamaki and are now employed by them as engineers!
Gosport has seen a 76% increase in apprenticeships over the last 10 years with 2,460 apprenticeships being started in 2017/18. An apprenticeship gives someone the chance to earn while they learn and get on in their career, while also making sure businesses have the skilled workers they need to grow.
They are changing lives by creating new opportunities for young people to access the quality training they need for the job and create for themselves a better future."
Keith Crossley, General Manager, Huhtamaki said:
“Huhtamaki Gosport have run a successful engineering apprenticeship program since 2007 and we are proud that we have had 12 apprentices successfully complete our engineering program.
Congratulations to Dale Thompson and James Riley for recently completing their Advanced Level 3 Apprenticeship in Engineering & Manufacturing Technologies and we wish them all the very best with their future career at Huhtamaki. Our Apprenticeship program plays a critical part of our succession planning to the business and we continue to look for positive ways to develop our employees for today and for the future.”
The Week also highlights the huge number of high quality apprenticeship opportunities available at all levels around the country, in a huge variety of sectors, including aviation engineering, nursing, finance and policing.
