Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has welcomed news that crime has fallen by over a quarter (32 per cent) since 2010, to its lowest ever level, according to the independent Crime Survey for England and Wales.
In the year to December 2015, there were 6.4 million crimes, 3.0 million fewer than the 9.4 million in the year to June 2010. This includes 226,000 fewer burglaries and 427,000 fewer violent offences.
Commenting on the news, Caroline said:
"In Hampshire, crime recorded by the police has fallen by 5%. This is making our community a safer place to live, work and raise a family, which is great news for Gosport, Stubbington, Lee-on-the-Solent and Hill Head.
"These figures show the strength of this Government's record in bringing crime down to its lowest ever level. It is important that we continue to build on this success by electing a Police and Crime Commissioner on Thursday 5 May that will work with the Government to deliver more visible policing and better use of police resources.
"That is why I am backing Michael Lane, the conservative candidate for Hampshire PCC, who I believe will do an excellent job building upon the strong record of Hampshire constabulary to further improve outcomes in policing, crime and disorder.'
