Local MP, Caroline Dinenage, has been successful in her bid for her Constituency to be part of the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy, a network of forest conservation initiatives to mark Her Majesty's lifetime of service to the Commonwealth.
This means the Gosport area has been given five trees - two silver birch, two rowan, and a hazel - thanks to a partnership between the Woodland Trust, Sainsbury's and ITV. In April a landmark documentary, The Queen's Green Planet, followed Her Majesty the Queen and this ambitious legacy project.
Caroline invited local organisations, businesses, gardens, schools and community groups to bid for the trees so that they could grow in locations across the local community.
The successful organisations who will receive one of the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy trees are: Friends of Crescent Gardens, Friends of Leesland Park, Friends of Stanley Park and Rectory Allotments.
Caroline said:
"I am really pleased that these green-fingered organisations were interested in taking part in the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy.
It is fantastic that I have been able to share the Queen's Commonwealth Canopy trees across the Gosport Constituency so that everyone can watch them flourish as part of this wonderful legacy initiative."
