Gosport MP Caroline Dinenage today visited Castaway House in Portsmouth to meet staff and volunteers from Armed Forces charities operating locally.
Castaway House is home to a number of charities and organisations which offer welfare and financial support to service men and women, veterans and their families. During today's visit, Caroline heard from the Royal Naval Benevolent Trust, Seafarers UK, the Women's Royal Naval Service Benevolent Trust and the Naval Families' Federation as well as the Naval, Military and Air Force Bible Society, Aggie's and the Regular Forces Employment Association.
Many of the organisations that Caroline heard from have benefited from the Chancellor's decision to channel the LIBOR fines which were levied from banks following the manipulation of interest rates scandal to military charities.
Following the visit, Caroline commented:
"With such a large Armed Forces community in our area, it is incredibly reassuring to know that we have fantastic charities operating in their interest. At Castaway House there are organisations to meet the needs of a wide range of people who are involved with the military and I know that their support is invaluable.
I was delighted to receive an update on the great work that each of the organisations have been doing in recent months and to hear about their plans for the future."
Caroline is a keen supporter of our Armed Forces and has worked hard to protect the military community since she was first elected in 2010. She has campaigned to save HMS Sultan, helped restore the Home to Duty travel allowance for service personnel travelling on the Gosport Ferry and called for fairness for War Widows' Pensions.
