Following the devastating closure of Haslar Hospital under the last Labour Government, I have fought to protect the local healthcare services on which our community depends.
In early 2011, I joined the campaign to secure the reopening of the Blake Maternity Unit at Gosport War Memorial Hospital after midwives were temporarily transferred to QA. Given our peninsula location, I was greatly concerned about mothers in labour facing a long journey to the Portsmouth hospital to receive care and joined a group of local mums to call for the return our midwives to Gosport.
