Local MP Caroline Dinenage is set to mark National Apprenticeship Week by visiting Britten-Norman at the Daedalus Enterprise Zone tomorrow.
National Apprenticeship Week takes place in March each year and celebrates the positive impact that apprenticeships have on individuals, businesses and the economy as a whole. The Gosport constituency has a strong track record on apprenticeships with 2,330 starts in 2013/14 and the new CEMAST skills centre providing support to 900 students on local programmes.
Britten-Norman is one of the companies pioneering growth locally thanks to its reputable apprenticeship scheme at its site on the Daedalus Enterprise Zone. It is the UK’s only independent civil aircraft manufacturer and offers a wide range of aerospace apprenticeships, from airframe construction to avionics installation. The company is now looking for 8 new apprentices to start later on this year.
Speaking ahead of her visit, Caroline said:
“I am extremely proud of the recent boom in apprenticeships across our area – these training opportunities are a fantastic alternative to traditional forms of further education, facilitating the development of essential qualifications and skills within a given sector.
Thanks to our thriving engineering and manufacturing industry, this sector accounts for the biggest proportion of apprenticeships in the Gosport area. I am really looking forward to meeting apprentices at Britten-Norman tomorrow and hearing more about their experiences of the scheme.”
As a strong advocate of the learning and skills agenda, Caroline has a long-standing commitment to promoting apprenticeship opportunities and regularly champions this issue both nationally and in Gosport.
